A professional model portfolio is a MUST if you want agents and clients to take notice.
An effective modeling portfolio requires a few key features.
It’s important to have a wide variety of images in your modeling portfolio. It’s great to include the abstract, the concept shots and some sexy shots. But, it’s also very important to have clean basic images. Casting directors need to see you, and how you will fit into their projects concept. Take time to make sure you have some simple, clean images that show them who you really are.
You need an awesome portfolio and you also need a clean comp card. Together with your photographer you can build a diverse collection of images that showcase your talent and range as a model/actor by displaying a variety of styles and looks.
Your comp card should show some of your best, recent images along side your measurements and modeling/acting info (height, eye color, any special skills, etc). You will need one full body shot, one from the waist up, a close up of your face and a profile image. These images should be taken in natural light with minimal makeup, hair styling and a simple wardrobe. Show the agents a very natural version of yourself.
Your authentic self is enough. Casting agents are broadening their talent horizons more and more these day. Directors are casting more unique, older and plus size talent for jobs formerly reserved for more “traditional” looking talent.
